Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs Recipe

If you are in the market for a new crockpot, I love this casserole crock pot.  It is perfect for casserole style slow cooker recipes like this one. I bought mine on Amazon, and I love it. It is perfect for the Holidays and really year round. Plus, it is just so pretty. We can still enjoy all our favorite casserole recipes without ever turning the oven on.

If you prefer a traditional style crock pot, I recommend one of the Ninja Cookers. I love these because you can brown the meat in the same pot for recipes that call for that.

It really cuts down on clean up and that is a plus for us busy moms. It is so nice just having the one pot to clean and not worrying about an extra pan to wash.

Another favorite is this programmable crock pot  for when I am am not at home all day. I love coming home to a nice meal ready and waiting!

I use one of the programmable slow cookers and it makes this recipe even easier! Amazon has several and I love mine.

Ok so now that you’re prepared with a crock pot, let’s continue on how to easily make ribs in a crock pot!

What ingredients are needed for this slow cooker bbq ribs recipe:

I promise it’s not too complicated to make this delicious ribs recipe.  It’s easy to throw everything in the slow cooker and let it do all the work so you don’t have to watch them all day in the oven.  Once you make ribs in the crock pot, you’ll never go back!
I have seen a lot of recipes that use a store bought barbecue sauce.  I have tried both and I think making your own sauce is a game changer for this recipe, so I recommend making your own bbq sauce for this slow cooking ribs recipe.
Here are the ingredients needed to make this recipe.
  • Ketchup
  • Molasses
  • White Vinegar
  • Minced Onion
  • Brown Sugar
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Minced Garlic
  • Pork Ribs
  • Water

What Kind of Ribs to Buy for slow cooker Ribs:

I use pork ribs for this recipe or baby back pork ribs.  I find that the meat tenderly falls off the bones when they are cooked in the crock pot.  Whichever you choose, ensure that you remove the membrane from the back of the ribs.  This member keeps them from getting tender.  I usually pull it off with my fingers or scrape it off with a knife if needed.

If you want to caramelize the sauce once the ribs are done, you can broil the ribs for 5-10 minutes on a baking sheet or grill the ribs for approximately 5 minutes on each side.  Then salt and pepper the ribs to your liking and enjoy!

Easy variations you can make for this recipe:

If you can’t find molasses at your grocery store, you can use honey or maple syrup instead.  Also, you can use garlic salt or garlic powder instead of minced garlic.
If you like your ribs with a little kick, I recommend add 2 teaspoons of chili powder to the sauce recipe.
